Members decide
The Elections Committee's report goes to the AGM for consideration and adoption. It lists the Chair as uncontested, and 8 of our 13 elective seats drew no qualified applicant. Our Constitution says office bearers are elected by secret ballot at the AGM (Art. 5.0 s.4). AHA-K must be a gateway for every member, not a gate guarded by a few. Here is how you make that happen.
-
Log in by 10:45 a.m.
Use your full name, and your member number if you know it, so you're counted. We need a quarter of registered members online for quorum, and every absent member is a vote for more of the same.
-
Back the motion for a secret ballot
When the Elections Committee report comes up, a motion will ask the AGM not to adopt an uncontested result for Chair, and to elect the Chair by secret ballot instead. Second it, speak for it, vote for it.
-
Vote Ken Miruka for Chair
When the ballot opens, be bold and go for gold.
-
Bring one more member
Call one Award holder tonight and log in together. Every member online counts.
Who votes: fully paid-up life members (Art. 5.0 s.5). Not sure of your standing? Ask the PA-K office today at info@presidentsaward.go.ke.

The Gold Membership promise
Pay up, and you're covered
Every member pays to belong, so every member has the right to ask: what do I get back? For too many of us, the honest answer today is a WhatsApp group and a fee. When illness, a death in the family or a business setback strikes, members are left to organise an appeal and hope enough people are online.
I'm standing to make every AHA-K membership a Gold Membership: four benefits included in your membership, with no extra forms, no separate fees and no one deciding who deserves help.
AHA-K Health Cover
A group hospital cover negotiated for every paid-up member, so an admission never becomes a WhatsApp appeal. Members can add their families at group rates.
AHA-K Life & Family Cover
Group life and last-expense cover. When the worst happens, the family receives a guaranteed payout within days and mourns with dignity instead of fundraising.
AHA-K Welfare Fund
A ring-fenced fund with clear, written rules that responds fast when life happens: a hospital stay, a bereavement, an accident, a lost job. Support by right, not by begging.
AHA-K Enterprise Fund
Interest-free starter capital for members building a business, paired with an alumni mentor and first customers inside the AHA network. Repayments refill the fund for the next member.
Why it's possible
- Our numbers are our bargaining power. Last-expense cover of KSh 100,000 now sells for about KSh 1,000 a year.Britam and Montezuma, via HapaKenya, April 2026
- Kenyan alumni associations already do it. USIU-Africa's alumni association and Jubilee Health launched AlumniCare, a health cover for more than 22,000 alumni.Capital FM; USIU-Africa
- The need is real. SACCO health loans grew 31% in the year to March 2026, faster than any other kind of SACCO lending. A funeral costs a Kenyan family KSh 50,000 to KSh 300,000.SASRA, via The Kenya Times; AKI study, via Capital FM
How it will be paid for
- A ring-fenced Benefits Pool. A fixed share of every membership fee goes into a separate, audited account that can only pay for member benefits.
- Competition for our business. Licensed insurers bid, through a licensed broker, for AHA-K's covers.
- A properly run Enterprise Fund, seeded by alumni pledges, partners and sponsors, run through a licensed SACCO or bank, and refilled by repayments.
- Life members' investment at work. Life membership funds invested transparently, with the returns helping to fund the benefits.
- Open books. Quarterly benefits reports and annual audited accounts to every member: every shilling in, every shilling out.
"I want AHA Kenya to be the membership you are proudest to renew, and the first to show up when life happens. Don't settle for mediocrity. Be bold. Go for gold."
Ken Miruka
The facts
Where my candidacy stands
Every member deserves the facts, so here they are in order.
- September 2026
I applied to stand for Chair of AHA-K.
- 9 October
The office asked for payment receipts or Award certificates. I sent my Award certificates the same morning.
- 13 October
The Elections Committee wrote that my Life Membership and qualifying payment were "not met or sufficiently demonstrated". I believe I paid 15–17 or so years ago, when, as I recall, AHA-K had no bank account and took fees in cash or by M-PESA. That receipt can't be traced. So that evening I paid, again, the full Ksh 10,000 Life Membership fee to AHA-K's Paybill (M-PESA ref. UJDKYADOWX) and lodged an appeal.
- 14 October
The Committee replied that once the Secretariat confirms my payment and registration, the matter may be referred back for consideration.
- 21 and 22 October
I asked the Secretariat to confirm my payment and to publish the list of members eligible to vote. As of Friday 23 October, I have had no confirmation.
- This week
The Elections Committee issued a statement listing the applicants it has verified, with one name for Chair. My name is not on it: my payment is still awaiting the Secretariat's confirmation. I was also removed from the members' WhatsApp group, so I've opened an independent campaign group that any member can join.
Our Constitution says one is a member "only when the full amount has been received" (Art. 3.0 s.3.3.1). The full amount has been received. Everything within my power is done.
Every life member who has paid in full has the right to vote and to stand for office (Art. 4.3; Art. 5.0 s.5). The Committee's report is a recommendation that the AGM must adopt, so the final word belongs to members. I'm asking members to decide by secret ballot.
Why I'm standing
AHA-K needs a revival
elective seats drew no qualified applicant this year.

My agenda
5 commitments for a working AHA-K
-
Grow and activate membership
Turn young Award holders into active Life Members, on a register every member can trust.
- The list of members eligible to vote, by name and member number, shared with all members 30 days before every AGM, with a window to correct it.
- A member number within 14 days of payment, with a one-page joining guide agreed with the Secretariat.
- One records reconciliation, so no member with a lost receipt is shut out again.
- With PA-K's agreement, an AHA-K welcome at every Gold Award ceremony, so new Gold holders can join the same day.
-
Institutionalise the calendar
No more silence. An AGM that happens, every year.
- The AGM every year on the last Saturday of August, our anniversary. The next one: Saturday 28 August 2027, hybrid.
- Notice, and the candidates' details, at least 21 working days ahead.
- A calendar of member events you can plan around, published every January.
-
Mobilise real resources
Partners, a giving fund and 1,000 alumni back in the Award by 2028.
- Two corporate partners for the calendar in year one, under published sponsorship rules, and an alumni giving fund.
- A mentorship and careers network linking senior alumni with young Award holders.
- 1,000 alumni serving as Award Leaders, supervisors, assessors and mentors: 100 by December 2026, 500 by December 2027 and 1,000 by December 2028, trained and safeguarding-vetted with PA-K.
-
Transparent governance
Constitutional order, in the open.
- The Executive meets at least quarterly, and signed minutes are shared with members.
- Audited accounts, and an auditor appointed, at every AGM.
- A short report to members every quarter, and members' data handled under the Data Protection Act.
-
Elevate our global profile
Kenya is an Award success story. Let's act like one.
- Connect Kenyan alumni to the International Award Foundation's Global Award Alumni Network; the Award runs in more than 130 countries and territories.
- Represent Kenya actively in international alumni forums, and bring at least one international opportunity a year to members.

How I will lead
A Chair for every member
Every committee member named. Every notice signed. A register every member can check. Every shilling accounted for.
- Hand in hand with PA-K. I'll work with the CEO and the Secretariat. PA-K's supervisory role (Art. 6.0) is a strength, not an obstacle.
- No unsigned documents. Every Executive decision minuted, signed and shared.
- Conflicts declared. While I am Chair, Alumnipad will not bid for paid AHA-K work.
- A report every quarter to all members.
- Everyone included, including members who don't vote for me.
If you elect me
My first 100 days
Deadlines members can hold the new leadership to, counted from the day after the AGM.
- By day 30
Every Executive member named to all members, and every official notice signed. The register verified and opened for every member to check and correct. The ring-fenced Benefits Pool opened and the accounts shared. Handover with the outgoing Executive and the Secretariat, and a joint plan with PA-K.
- By day 60
Licensed insurers invited to bid for AHA-K Life & Family Cover and AHA-K Health Cover. Written Welfare Fund rules adopted. The first 100 alumni trained and vetted with PA-K by 31 December.
- By day 100
AHA-K Life & Family Cover and the Welfare Fund switched on for every paid-up member. The 2027 calendar published, with the AGM on Saturday 28 August 2027, and by-elections under way for any seat still vacant (Art. 5.0 s.4 allows up to six months).
